REMEMBER: If you are participating in a Home School Coalition or as an Independent, if the Coalition or you yourself accept any type of Federal Grants or Voucher funds for your child's education, the Federal government now controls their education.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN
EDUCATION DAILY of May 21, 1987 covered the CARNEGIE FOUNDATION for the Advancement of Teaching’s award of $817,000 to Lee Shulman of Stanford University, formerly involved in Chicago’s Mastery Learning failure, for his forthcoming work on assessments for new teachers.
Kathy L. Collins, legal counsel for the Iowa Department of Education wrote an article entitled “Children Are Not Chattel” for the American Humanist Association’s journal Free Inquiry in the Fall of 1987 (Vol. 7, No. 4, p. 11) and stated that Christian parents who want the freedom to indoctrinate their children with religious education do not understand that the law that prevents them from legally teaching their kids prevents someone else from abusing them. Certified teachers are state-mandated child-abuse reporters. When children are allowed to be kept at home, there may be no outside contact, no help for the abused child. [Ed. Note: This portentous article was published just as the homeschooling movement in America began mushrooming. Parents responded to the failures of the latest fads in the class-rooms by pulling their children out of public schools to instruct them at home. Many educators viewed the rise of home education with alarm. Parental rights and constitutional religious freedoms posed a direct threat to the “it takes a village to raise a child” philosophy which was to become embedded in every state’s education reform plan during the 1990s.]
On November 2, 1987, a few years before the Berlin Wall came down, and only two years after the signing of the U.S.-Soviet education agreements, Mikhail Gorbachev was reported by Novosti Press Agency Publishing House in Moscow to have said in his speech to the Soviet Central Committee, “We are moving toward a new world: the world of communism. We shall never turn off that road.” Even so, after the Berlin Wall came down (1989) and in 1996 Gorbachev founded the Social Democratic Party of Russia.
Gorbachev was a keynote speaker at a major Republican Party fundraiser's even though he was very critical of the U.S. system of government and their monetary system. In 2009 he became involved in world affairs founding the Gorbachev Foundation, Green Cross International and was one of the 3 major sponsors of the Earth Charter. He was also a member of Club of Rome and Club of Madrid.
Gorbachev and his invoking of the Earth Charter and the Ark of the GAIA Covenant ~ “Do not do unto the environment of others what you do not want done to your own environment....My hope is that this charter will be a kind of Ten Commandments, a 'Sermon on the Mount', that provides a guide for human behavior toward the environment in the next century.” — Mikhail Gorbachev, The Los Angeles Times, May 8, 1997 Link

Home School Programs This Website Supports
FPE has purposed to avoid CCS-aligned materials. Any of its resources published by companies that have now aligned were purposely chosen to pre-date the CCS (i.e., copyright dates prior to 2010)
|
Materials written by Classical Conversations and used in the program are not CC aligned, and they will continue to recommend only non-CCS editions of Saxon Math. The program does suggest a math resource from Scholastic, which is CC aligned, but it is an optional tutor resource, not required in the actual curriculum. It also includes one book from Instructional Fair, but that resource was published in 1999. However, in 2015 Classical Conversations became a significant corporate sponsor for National Number Knockout (N2K), which advertised that it “helps meet Common Core...standards.” Classical Conversations “supports N2K's efforts by hosting [its] online downloads and sales” on the Classical Conversations website.
|
Seton utilizes Modern Curriculum Press (MCP) for some math, geography, and vocabulary. However, it currently uses editions from 1994, 2003, and 2005, which are not CCS-aligned. Aligned materials will be copyrighted 2010 or later.

National Number Knockout, or N2K, is a math competition and they state it encourages the improvement of calculating speed and accuracy in young students. I have not met a parent whose child has used this so I cannot comment on its effectiveness - but to remember it will help with Common Core which leads me to believe they intend to upgrade their Saxon Math curriculum to later versions which are aligned to the Common Core.

The Problem with Coverdell for
Homeschool Families
Coverdell Education Savings Account (also known as an Education Savings Account, a Coverdell ESA, a Coverdell Account, or just an ESA, and formerly known as an education individual retirement account), is a tax-advantaged investment account in the United States designed to encourage savings to cover future education
The problem that has faced homeschoolers is that the federal law that created the Coverdell defined eligible expenses as costs associated only with public and private school costs. So the Coverdell cannot be used for homeschool expenses, unless a family is operating their homeschool program as a private school in one of the 14 states where a homeschool is treated as a private school.
Homeschoolers in the other 36 states, therefore, cannot use a Coverdell, unless they are using it solely for college costs.
Last year after Anita Hoge wrote her articles warning against Ted Cruz's S.306 bill, some came out stating Homeschooling parents should not be concerned as they could use the Coverdell funds. As you can see this is currently true in only 14 states.
