In essence, blended learning, also known as hybrid learning, means a that portion of the traditional face-to-face instruction is replaced by web-based learning, which is often achieved through the use of rotations. Rotations consist of different stations: (a) small group instruction led by the teacher, (b) collaborative or independent practice, and (c) self-directed, online activities.
"Hybrid" or "Blended" are names commonly used to describe courses in which some traditional face-to-face "seat time" has been replaced by online learning activities. The purpose of a hybrid course is to take advantage of the best features of both face-to-face and online learning.
