Teaching Pre-Schoolers:
  • Understanding the Pledge: In order to bring the pledge down to a level that preschoolers can understand, try explaining it as follows: “When we pledge allegiance, we are saying how happy we are to live in the United States. There are so many people in the United States, but we all work together to make sure that things are fair for everybody." Have children discuss the concepts of fairness and working together, and make sure that they understand why both of them are important.

  • Stars on a Flag:  Ask children to guess how many stars they think are on the flag. You might get responses like “a million!" or “infinity!" Tell students that there are fifty stars on the flag, just like there are fifty states in the United States. Make sure to take out a map of the United States to show them how the country is made up of many different states. Explain that each star on the flag stands for one of the states. Ask children to make their own flag to represent their family. Encourage them to include the same number of stars (or some other decoration) as there are people in their families.
  • March…Two…Three…Four…Tell children that they will have a Pledge of Allegiance parade. Explain that the pledge says that all of the people in the country have to work together and make things fair for each other. Have children hold up their family flags and march around the classroom singing patriotic songs.
This lesson is an excellent one to do at the beginning of the year or near national holidays. Show preschoolers the importance of patriotism and love of and to their country.
This is a song about the Pledge of Allegianceand it can also be used to explain what allegiance means.

A pledge is a promise that we make
An agreement or a vow that we take
Allegiance means being loyal to something
Forever, forever

Pledge of Allegiance, a promise that we make
A republic is a country with elected leaders;
A nation of people with one government
Indivisible means we cannot be divided
Stay together, we'll stay together

Pledge of Allegiance, a promise that we make
Liberty means we have freedom to do
Most anything thing that we want to
Justice means that we try to be fair
To make things better, better

Pledge of Allegiance, a promise that we make
Pledge of Allegiance, we're loyal to our states
Pledge of Allegiance, our country is so great

Pledge of Allegiance by Mac McGovern - 2014

I Pledge Allegiance:  a solemn vow of obedience, from the earliest age of grievance, when found deliverance, one people, united against tyranny and intolerance, become the model of democracy and tolerance.

To The Flag:  the symbol of once colonization, come together in celebration, a new unconquerable nation,
a successful castration, of oppression and dictation.

Of The United States Of America:  a conglomeration of people form one nation coast to coast, a single relation, one voice, one oration, tread on me, expect retaliation

And To The Republic
A democracy, its creation, the Constitution, its foundation, agreeable to all, in origination,
fiercely guarded against demolition, militarization, and impregnation, over all these years, still on station

For Which It Stands
the protector, of all oppressed lands, the world over, she lends a hand,
her signature, her blood, in foreign sand

One Nation
from sea to sea, whether rich or poor, some vocal, others, chose to ignore those who guard the shore, those who knock on heaven’s door, one nation, esprit de corps.

Under God
in a time, when belief was strong, today, should not be wrong, having been with us so very long, a few may sing a different song, most will believe, as they have, all along

Indivisible
one as a whole number, cannot be divided, by any other, many have tried, under guise, of brother, only to be denied, by the mother

With Liberty And Justice For All
the means to end all oppression, infinitely wrong with transgression, succession, regression, and repression along

Our Pledge of Allegiance
a pledge of a nation, a history profound, one indivisible number, all it takes, to be, no longer allowed

Mac writes from the heart and is influenced somewhat by what he sees, feels, hears, and to a larger extent, what is gleamed from his mind’s eye. Today, Mac resides in Pensacola, Florida with the inspiration and love of his life, his wife Sandra.

In May 2011, he invented a new poetic form called "Interchanging Poetry." A narrative, combining poetry with discussion, debate, dialog, or description; using poetry to emphasize the narrative. The purpose, to develop interchanging literary devices to enhance poetic discourse.
